Melissa spent 18 years teaching in the classroom before founding Step-by-Step Photo Organization in 2019, where she's taught in-person and online classes helping people organize and preserve their family photos. She's Colorado-based, and the case for having a documented record of your home isn't abstract to her.
When the Marshall Fire tore through communities just miles from her home in December 2021 — destroying over a thousand homes and damaging hundreds more — she watched families lose everything, then struggle to prove what they'd lost when insurance claims required documentation they didn't have. She built a Quick Home Inventory Class in response, using the same skills she was already teaching through her photo-organization business. That class grew into a full series of emergency-preparedness classes she still teaches today.
That urgency hasn't faded. Colorado is heading into another fire season after one of its driest winters on record, with snowpack at historic lows across the state — and Melissa isn't waiting to see what happens.
That firsthand experience, paired with years of hands-on teaching, is why she leads Homvi today.
